Privacy Notice
This notice explains what information mcxla.com ("this site," "we," "us") collects when you visit, how it's used, and the choices you have. This site is a personal photography journal operated by Manny Contreras, based in Los Angeles, California, USA.
1. What we collect
We keep collection to a minimum. Depending on the cookie preferences you set in the banner on this site, we may collect:
- Usage data — pages viewed, time on page, referring site, approximate location (derived from IP), device and browser type, collected through Google Tag Manager and any analytics tags configured within it (e.g., Google Analytics).
- Preference data — your cookie choices and, if enabled, your last-used gallery filter, stored in your browser's local storage rather than a server-side database.
- Font delivery data — this site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which may log your IP address as part of serving the font files.
We do not operate user accounts, checkout, or payment processing on this site. Print orders and licensing inquiries happen on a separate site, mcxlabs.net, which has its own privacy practices.
2. Cookie categories
The preference banner on this site lets you control four categories:
| Category | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Essential | Always on. Remembers your cookie choice itself; the site cannot function without it. |
| Analytics | Anonymous, aggregated usage stats (e.g., which photographs get viewed) via Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics. |
| Functional | Remembers interface preferences, like your last gallery filter. |
| Marketing | Off by default. Would only be used to show relevant content if you later visit mcxlabs.net. |
Analytics and marketing tags are blocked by default (via Google Consent Mode) until you actively opt in through the banner or the preferences panel, which you can reopen at any time from the footer of the homepage.
3. How we use this data
- To understand which photographs and pages resonate, so the site can be improved.
- To remember your stated preferences between visits.
- To keep the site secure and functioning correctly.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. Third parties
- Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics — tag management and, if enabled, usage analytics. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — webfont delivery.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing:
- EU/UK visitors (GDPR): you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, and may withdraw consent at any time via the preferences panel.
- California residents (CCPA/CPRA): we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law. You may still request details of what limited data has been collected about you.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. Because this site does not maintain accounts, most requests are limited to browser-stored preferences and any analytics data associated with your device.
6. Data retention
Preference data stored in your browser persists until you clear your browser storage or change your choice. Aggregated analytics data is retained per Google Analytics' standard retention settings.
7. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
8. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
